Personal/Social

Happiness is a direction, not a destination.

The Counseling Department is here to help you through personal or social issues you may experience while in middle school. See below for some helpful tips on how to handle confrontations or conflicts among friends.

How to Fight Fair
1. Identify the problem.
2. Focus on the problem.
3. Attack the problem, NOT the person.
4. Listen with an open mind.
5. Treat the person's feelings with respect.
6. Take responsibility for your actions.
Fouls: name calling, blaming, not listening, getting even, bringing up the past, threats, pushing, put-downs, making excuses or not taking responsibility.

Asking a question without blame
- How did it happen?
- Can you tell me about it?
- Help me to understand, I'm confused.
- Can you tell me more?
- Can we figure out a fair way to solve this?

The 4-Part Apology
1. I'm sorry for...
2. This is wrong because...
3. In the future, I will...
4. Will you forgive me?

Be confident!
1. Stop comparing.
2. Think positively.
3. Accept mistakes.
4. Don't let anyone define you.
5. Set personal goals.
6. Do something you love.
7. Spend time with yourself and accept yourself as you are!
